The Waterway at The Woodlands

The Waterway at The Woodlands

I’ve become pretty fond of The Woodlands.  I’d live there if it weren’t for that whole pesky driving to work thing.  Yes, it’s a huge suburban master planned community… but it’s nice.  There’s huge trees everywhere.  The lighting isn’t too bright so you can see the stars at night.  It’s quiet.  If you move there your neighborhood won’t turn all ghetto fabulous within 10 years…

Anyway, back to the photo.  The developer is ripping off two things here.  First, is the waterway, a canal system that runs from the mall, past the concert pavillion, some office buildings, and the Marriott. It’s a knockoff of the San Antonio Riverwalk, right down to the water taxis.  Second is the fountains with lightshow.  They’re ripping off the Bellagio in Vegas.  Neither has the same panache, but it’s a pleasant way to wrap up the evening.  We’ve been there twice (the first time was the most entertaining, with a jaded Water Taxi driver who let us ride free and sarcastically ribbed the teenagers who boarded with their parents, plus some entertaining drunks on board) and we’ll be back.
